RE: Myrtle Beach in October

Ray, I go on 1 or 2 golf only trips with the guys every year to MB. If that is what you are looking for, then I have a couple of suggestions. The Legends Resort out on 501 is at the top of the food chain, along with the Barefoot Resort. I think they have a mutual thing now, and their courses are some of the best MB has to offer.
If you are looking for an Ocean Front hotel/resort that offers golf packages, then the Sands Ocean Club is pretty good. They have a beach bar onsite, Ocean Annies. I think it is still open that time of year, with live bands, etc. I have stayed and played there also.
I have stayed and played at the Legends for 13 straight years. The golf condos, practice facility, and the club house, where the breakfast buffet is served every morning, is 1st class. Since this is a guys trip, rumor has it there are other establishments of interest fairly close buy, that I am not sure I can mention on this forum. Have fun!

RE: 2009 Myrtle Beach

We go to Ocean Lakes every year. The others mentioned are fine, but I think the overall amenities at Ocean Lakes has them all beat. OL gets a lot of bad press on here concerning the golf cart traffic. OL is the largest oceanfront campground in the US. They have close to 900 transient campsites, and tons of houses, etc. in other parts of the campground. I think golf carts are a neccesary thing, due to the imense size of this place. Could you imagine that many vehicles driving around in there?
So, if you think the golf carts would be an issue for you, then you need to stay away from OL, PL, and Lakewood. The carts really don't bother us, but that is us. MBTP would be the place for you. They don't rent carts, and I have stayed there also, and it is a nice place. As others have advised, you better decide and call today, because they do book fast.

Is Pilgrim the next RV Manufacturer causality?

Saw this at rvindustry news web site. Doesn't sound good.
MIDDLEBURY, Ind. -- Pilgrim International has ceased operations, the company confirmed to RV Industry News today.
According to an official statement read by a company operator, "We have ceased operations until further notice. We have hopes of restarting and will recontact you once our status is known," she read."Pilgrim has not closed and has not filed bankruptcy."
She would not elaborate as to the reasons for the closure.
However, a source contacting RV Industry News said the problem with a financial institution had resulted in a number of bounced checks.

RE: Coleman?

Well there may some hope for the Coleman brand. Seems that they have licensed the Coleman folding camper brand to a manufacturer in Somerset, PA. Check the story out.

RE: First-time diesel fueling with trailer

We just made the DisneyWorld trip from NC back in May. There are plenty of Flying J's, Love's, and Pilot facilities along I95, which I assume you will be mostly on? These work like a champ for those of us pulling large trailers. I would suggest you stick to these, and you shouldn't have any issues.

RE: RN Travel and hospital/campground locations??

Faith:
There is a thread "Travel Nurses" by Rhonda over in the workamping forum related to this subject. I think there is about 50 post in it. It looks like this lady has traveled around a fair amount and might be able to offer you some really good advice. Good luck and the thread is:

RE: Did Anyone See the Special on the Winnebago Factory?

Thanks to mehwwh's post, I set the DVR for the 1:00PM Saturday time, and then watched it this past Sunday afternoon. I thought the manufacturing process was pretty impressive. I was most surprised at how much stuff Winnebago manufacturers themselves at their various facilities in Iowa. A good example of good ole American manufacturing and craftmanship.

RE: Forest River or Coachman???

We have had our Coachmen Chapparal for almost 5 years. I have pulled it around a fair amount, and just haven't had any problems with it. The biigest thing I have had is appliance recalls. Can't really blame that on Coachmen. All were repaired at no cost. Approaching the 5 year mark this year, I had the wheel bearings repacked, put a new set of Maxxis tires on it, and had to do some chalking on the roof this spring. It was just time to renew some of the chalking. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Coachmen

RE: Anybody cancel Disney because of fuel prices ?

Absolutely not, just got back several weeks ago from 8 nights 5/24 thru 6/1 at Fort Wilderness. We had planned it for 18 months. Spent $525.00 in fuel towing the 5ver down and back. I don't like the fuel prices anymore than the next guy, but my driving force was that my son will be a senior in high school next year, and I knew after that it would be more of a challenge to do trips to Disney for all of us. Some things just out weigh additional fuel cost. Sure glad we went, have some priceless memories.

RE: Myrtle Beach Golf

Maskins:
There are several courses fairly close to PL. You might consider the Witch. It is located back up 544 several miles toward Costal Carolina University. Wicked Stick is also on 544 at hwy 17. Sort of back behind Walmart. It is really a fun course, not real long and not a real though course. I think your group would enjoy it. Also, on 544 is Prestwick. This is a very nice course, has some length, and is fairly challenging. It is actually owned by the same parent company that owns Ocean Lakes. These are pretty close to PL.
If you really want to play a difficult and beautiful course, then the TPC at Myrtle Beach is a few miles South of PL. This used to host a Champions Tour event.

RE: Myrtle Beach Golf

Where are you staying/camping? I have been going to MB for 20+ years at least 1 or 2 golf trips a year. Might be able to point you to a course that you won't have to drive very far. Also, how much of a challenge does the group want?

Was the campground full during your stay? Just curious with all the doom and gloom with fuel prices, etc., if folks are still filling up the parks at Myrtle.

RE: Going to Disney-Need help on best places to take kids in FL.

With kids that age, you could definately spend 2 days at Magic Kingdom, 1 day at Animal Kingdom, and 1 day at Disney's Hollywood studios. I like Epcot, but I think it is setup for older kids and adults. They will for sure enjoy Seaworld. I believe they would enjoy Universal, but you really need 2 days to do both parks if you have the time.

RE: camping myrtlebeach

We have stayed at all the big ones, except for Apachie. We have stayed at OL for the last number of years. You won't go wrong with either PL or OL. I do like the covered shelters on the ocean front sites and the lazy river at PL. My personal opinion, is that for overall ammenities, I think OL has them all covered, and enjoy our stays there.

RE: Fort widerness sites.

We were there for 8 nights over Memorial Day weekend and beyond. We stayed in the 1400 loop this time. We really liked it. You can walk down the path to the pool area and the Meadows Trading Post. It is only about 10 to 15 minute walk to the settlement area to catch the boat. Also, the outdoor nightly sing along and movie is at the back of the loop near the comfort station. This was pretty nice. A couple of nights I walked over and watched some of the movie they were showing. I thought the 1400 loop was pretty convenient.

RE: Trying to book Disney World Fort Wilderness 2009

Crash, I have been twice to FW, and just got back from an 8 day stay on June 2. It is a great place to take the family, and you will have a blast. It has been my experience to just call the reservation line and work the reservations out on the phone. Usually, very nice people that want to help you. Also, as to planning, I would highly recommend going to www.mousesavers.com for tons of info. Also, FW is probably the most asked about place on the forum. Do a search for hours of interesting and informative reading. Good luck!

RE: Best campground in gatlinburg area??

I would highly recommend River Plantation. It is actually in Sevierville, which is right beside Pigeon Forge. Others like Rivers Edge and I believe Twin Creek gets a lot of positive comments. There are a couple out toward the Townsend area, can't recall the names, but I am sure others will identify. If you do a forum search, you will have hours of reading. There are several forum members that live in that area, and when this question gets ask, they seem to lean toward River Plantation also.

RE: Myrtle Beach questions

To add to the other post, you can make reservations at Ocean Lakes 18 months in advance. All the roads are paved, and a large amount of the sites now have concrete pads. They are all pull through sites. They still have a lot of sand/grass sites also. It is a big place. I think the sites with pads are $5.00 more per day.

RE: FW Tires

I just put the very set of Maxxis, that Amxpress spoke of in his post, on my FW. Took it out on a trip this weekend about 3 hours out, and had no problems. I replaced a 6 year old set of GY Marathons with the Maxxis. I will say that I never had any issues with the Marathons, just didn't want any Chi Com Marathon tires back on it. The other set I had where made in USA. The new Maxxis seem to perform just fine. I had also just put a new set of Michelins on my 250. The truck and trailer really handled nicely.
